Position Summary:

Sallie Mae is looking for an experienced credit risk strategy professional to fill the Senior Manager of Credit Strategy position for Sallie Mae's credit card product. This senior manager will manage the origination and portfolio credit strategy for a successful launch and growth of a profitable credit card business for Sallie Mae.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deploy acquisition management strategy: underwriting, pricing, and line assignment
  • Develop and deploy a comprehensive portfolio credit strategy covering the account's life cycle
  • Achieve key performance metrics for new account and portfolio
  • Design proper tests to accumulate data for credit strategy continuous improvement
  • Improve strategy and model performance by exploring new credit bureau attributes and alternative data sources
  • Work closely with internal and external business partners moving forward to achieve business objectives

30% - Acquisition Management

  • Develop and refine the underwriting, line, pricing, and fraud strategies to achieve credit risk and financial return targets for a credit card, or existing Sallie Mae consumer lending products.
  • Establish and optimize acquisition strategies for multiple acquisition channels.
  • Collaborate with various business partners balancing multiple competing goals: growth, credit risk, and profitability.
  • Design and execute experiment designs for future strategy refinements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely strategy implementations.

30% - Portfolio Management

  • Develop and refine portfolio line management strategy system, covering the life cycle of the cardmember: early life vs mature CLI/CLD.
  • Develop and refine marketing eligibility strategy.
  • Design and execute experiment designs for future strategy refinements.
  • Ensure proper documentation and timely implementation.

20% - Decision System/Infrastructure Design

  • Work closely with credit card processing platform vendor outline and design the system requirements for key acquisition functionalities: application processing, underwriting, product features, issuing, onboarding, etc.
  • Assist in the design of a highly accessible relationship database for credit card acquisition management to support consistent, automated, flexible business analytics and reporting.
  • Ensure proper documentation and timely implementation.

20% - Internal Controls

  • Ensure all compliance, audit and other internal risk partner requirements are completed.
  • Oversee research, responses and meet SLA requirements for Customer complaints.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's Degree in Business, Economics, Statistics or related field, or equivalent work experience

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in credit risk management experience with a major credit card/personal loan company
  • 5+ years of experience performing statistical/business analysis with SAS and SQL
  • Experience in developing acquisition or portfolio credit strategy
  • Experience managing internal & external control requirements
  • Experience with a statistical model/scorecard for acquisition or portfolio management

  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to explain technical information to all level of audience effectively in a concise manner
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment effectively managing multiple and changing priorities

  • Working knowledge of credit card process platform
