The Regional Category Management Lead for IT Enterprise Architecture manages, directs, and sets strategy for the procurement efforts associated with Regional IT topics with specific focus on Cloud Services and Software as a Service (SaaS) contracts, as well as provide strategic business guidance, implement and apply global procurement standard processes and tools, and content & methodology to ensure compliance with the Global Procurement Mandate for Business Units in the Americas.

This role will interface with the IT Global Enterprise Architect team at "C" Level and Mid-Level management to collaboratively build strategies and manage, direct, and integrate all procurement related activities. Additionally, this position will be required to liaise closely with the Finance Leadership, Audit, Compliance, and Internal Risk Management in order to champion the procurement related requirements as well as to promote and drive procurement value add for the Munich Re affiliates across the Americas.

As Regional Category Management Lead, You'll

  • Provide expert procurement skills for core IT sourcing topics including but not limited to IT Professional Services, IT Hardware & IT Software services.
  • Provide specialized procurement skills and knowledge for IT Enterprise Architecture topics, in particular; Cloud Services and SaaS contracts including negotiation strategy, and contract structuring and implementation.
  • Cultivate key stakeholder relationships and partnerships with key Munich Re Americas contacts, in particular with the Global Enterprise Architect Team and with the Life Business entities.
  • Develop and execute a strategic plan, along with a road map to enhance support for the IT Global Enterprise Architect team and support for the Munich Re affiliates throughout the Americas.
  • Manage a regional team of category managers, strategic buyers and/or operative buyers and ensure staff conducts business in conformance with code of conduct; ensure procurement practices are consistent with MR Group and local guidelines.
  • Deliver core value-add results by way of; Financial: Addressed spend & savings, Risk reduction & compliance, Contract review and implementation, KPI's and reporting.
  • Develop comprehensive procurement and supplier strategies for the assigned commodity group. Synergies within the Munich Reorganization are identified and implemented as far as possible (national, regional, global).
  • Manage strategic commercial relationships including tenders, negotiations, outsourcing decisions and supplier management. Stipulate quality and service level agreements with suppliers, and ensure adequate measurement/response.
  • Support the IT & Telecoms Procurement Category as required, with key strategic projects, team planning and participation in team workshops and meetings, knowledge share, training, and compliance.
  • Manage and re-engineer the procurement lifecycle to ensure efficiency as well as compliance with applicable policies. Implement processes to improve spend visibility, prevent fraud and conflicts of interest.
  • Partner with Accounting/Finance to verify savings and align to common objectives.
  • Conduct market and spend analyses for commodity group; identify potential suppliers and place in the portfolio of prospective suppliers.
  • Develop and mentor new hires and support the development of talent across the Americas

Successful candidates will possess the following experience, skills, and capabilities:

  • BS/BA required; MBA or advanced degree a plus
  • Professional certification (CPSM, CSM) a plus
  • 7 + years of procurement experience with increasing management responsibilities
  • Experience managing a regional diverse team.
  • Expert knowledge across IT sourcing category groups.
  • Specific expertise in IT Enterprise Architecture; IT Cloud Services, SaaS Services, and IT Professional Services.
  • Experience in planning and executing procurement integration plans
  • Experience in leading strategic sourcing projects spanning multiple business units
  • Effective in developing and executing business plans and the achievement of financial targets
  • High level of understanding and demonstrated competency in strategic negotiations, supplier management, outsourcing, and supply chain analysis
  • Proficient in contract terminology, and in particular Cloud and SaaS contract terminology, and expertise in developing alternative clauses where necessary
  • Strong understanding of accounting, finance and budgeting concepts
  • Expert knowledge of key Procurement Tools & Processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams and senior management in pursuit of procurement objectives
  • Effective in personnel management, including hiring, development and performance management
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, presentation, and reporting skills
  • Strong strategic project management skills and experience, Agile project management methodology useful
  • Reinsurance and/or primary insurance experience a plus
  • Intercultural awareness, able to work with a globally diverse team
  • Willingness to travel (approx. 25% of the time)
