Regional General Adjuster

Homesite Insurance is seeking a Regional General Adjuster to Investigate, negotiate, evaluate and settle first party property claims within given authority while providing fair, timely, reliable and professional claims service to our policyholders. The Regional General Adjuster will handle highly sensitive and complex claims, typically in excess of $100,000 total severity. Extensive experience in estimating is required. The applicant must demonstrate a history of exceptional customer service technical knowledge.

Essential Job Functions

  • Investigate claims
    • Physically inspecting the property, loss, and/or damage
    • Interview insureds, claimants and witnesses
    • Ask appropriate questions and probe to gather the required information
    • Request and obtain necessary information from third parties
    • Create damage/loss report
    • Complete estimate utilizing Xactimate estimating software
    • Negotiate and reach agreed settlements with policyholders, contractors, other adjusters, or customer representatives
    • Maintain an accurate diary system
    • Ability to recognize potential fraud and recovery
  • Customer service focused
  • Educate the customer on the claim process
  • Provide clear and accurate expectations and next steps
  • Create and send professional quality correspondence specific to the claim issues
  • Provide status updates to the customer
  • Quickly and accurately respond to customer questions and concerns
  • Investigate the cause of loss in order to determine coverage
  • Appropriate handling of salvage
  • Facilitate subrogation when appropriate
  • Provide regular status updates and respond timely to requests
  • Maintain Homesite s reputation and integrity by complying with federal and state regulations, company service standards, core values, and established processes and guidelines
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education
  • Participate in special projects or perform other duties as requested
  • Flexibility to accommodate inspections over the weekend or after normal business hours
  • Travel ~50% of the year primarily in NJ, PA, CT, and NY

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced, claims environment with frequent customer contact
  • Flexibility to travel
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Able to traverse ladders, roofs and damaged property
  • Preferably reside in New Jersey

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver s license (driving record will be verified)
  • 10+ years first party claims experience with a minimum of 5 years experience as a field adjuster (personal and commercial lines preferred)
  • Field experience must include writing and reviewing estimates within the Xactimate estimating software
  • Background in handling both fire and large loss claims
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Able to demonstrate empathy and compassion for our customers
  • Excellent business writing skills
  • Ability to articulate decisions, technical knowledge and policies to customers and other parties
  • Independent decision making, negotiating and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required state licenses

Educational Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • Insurance designations (CPCU, AIC) preferred
